The Speech School provides after school public speaking and theatre tuition to Primary School students. Our Confident Kids program is for students in Years 2-3, while Speech School 4-6 caters for students in middle and upper primary.
Our weekly classes provide students with ongoing opportunities to learn, practise and refine the art of public speaking in a welcoming, creative and fun environment.
There are a wide range of FUN speaking-based activities and games that will cover the key components of preparing and presenting speeches, delivering prose, poetry, storytelling, debating, monologues, impromptu speeches and theatre skills.
The school caters for everyone and provides time for students to practise and improve the vital skill of public speaking. We aim for these skills to stay with students throughout their school years and their lives.
What will lessons look like? Lessons will always have a fun warm up and cool down game. There will always be a new Tongue Twister for the week and an End of Term Tongue Twister Championship with prizes! There will always be creative and fun public speaking challenges that focus on a particular skill. Students will always be encouraged to participate at their own pace if they are nervous. They will be prompted to stand in their power and believe in themselves. Students will be encouraged to listen to their words and think on their feet. As time goes by, they will become more and more confident and able to contribute to a variety of real-life public speaking settings not simply speech making. Students will become engaged listeners and speakers. They will enjoy lessons and look forward to attending.
